SAGUACHE COUNTY DEPT. HUMAN SERVICES DIRECTOR
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the administration, monitoring, supervision, and performance of the county Department of Human Services programs, as mandated by federal and state laws and regulations and by county directives. Oversees the daily operations of the Department of Human Services. Plans, makes decisions, and takes appropriate action on issues as they arise, both internally and externally. Manages fiscal, human, and other resources to effectively provide mandated services to the public.
Salary will depend on qualifications, this position is FLSA Exempt Status.

Master's degree preferred; bachelor's degree required in the field of sociology, education, public or business administration, or closely related field. Combinations of experience and education may be accepted.
Minimum of five (5) years responsible managerial experience in the provision of human service programs. Knowledge of organizational structure, program development, and functions of federal, state, and local human service programs, including budget and finance, with particular reference to their implications at the county level.
Knowledge and familiarity with management practices and procedures, budgeting and financial management, public administration, and personnel management. Thorough knowledge of Colorado's social service laws and regulations.
Knowledge of principles and practices of social casework, social welfare administration, social research, and community economic, social and health resources.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county departments, community groups and agencies, and members of the public. Ability to maintain high ethical standards and professionalism when interacting with community members, clients, and members of the public.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time and travel to and from various destinations.

Position includes review and presentation of department cases to judicial court, any matters consequential or incidental to cases and appeals. This includes counseling and advising staff and Director on child welfare, abuse or neglect, child support enforcement and adult protection cases, attendance to staff meetings, and possible conferences or training as appropriate and agreed upon. Saguache County Department of Social Services is now accepting applications for the position of Income Maintenance Technician. Position determines eligibility and benefit delivery for Medicaid, Food assistance, Colorado Works, and other income assistance programs. No degree or specialized training necessary, but includes a great opportunity for State training. Bilingual ability is preferred and given consideration, but not required. Starting salary is minimum $26,000 per year and full benefits, depending on experience. There are many options available to you to apply for Food Assistance benefits. Try to provide as much information as you can on the application to make the process faster.

Due to the COVID-19 Outbreak, Center and Saguache Social Service offices are open to the public only to the front window. All programs continue to be processed within normal timelines.
Applications can be emailed, faxed or done on PEAK website., or dropped off at the front window of either office.
Current and potential clients for Food Assistance, Adult Financial programs will be interview by phone and verifications by accepted by fax, email, or through the front window of either office. Crestone hours are suspended until further notice. Any business can be conducted by phone and/or email. Pictures of documents are accepted also.
EBT cards can be issued through the mail or at either office front window.
Food banks will be open 8-4pm, Mon thru Friday in both Center and in Saguache. Commodities will be distributed at all locations as previous; clients are encouraged to remain in their vehicles so no one should be in line. We will bring your items to your car.
TANF emergency funding can be utilized for people who are laid off or are staying at home with children, or are otherwise off work. Includes help with rent, utilities or other necessities. Come to apply at the Center or Saguache office.
