The mission of the Saguache County Prevention Partners is to promote a healthy and safe community through the reduction and prevention of underage drinking.
The SCPP is an initiative focused on impacting community level change in the prevention of underage drinking and tobacco use. The coalition works to change people's perceptions, attitudes and habits around substance abuse. The Saguache County Public Health oversees the project which employs one part-time position, a coordinator, and a quarter time position, evaluation liaison. In addition youth consultants are hired to represent out three school districts.
Formed in March of 2006, the SCPP coalition is comprised of approximately 15 interested youth, business owners, service providers, educators, citizens, and government officials from Saguache County. Coalition members participate in and provide direction for each step of the prevention process from planning through implementation. Healthy Kids Colorado Surveys are administered each fall to provide data for identifying evidence based programming. Curriculum has been purchased and is being implemented in Mountain Valley, Moffat and Center school districts.
For the remainder of the 2008 calendar year SCPP will be conducting *Communities That Care* trainings the involves the whole community in promoting positive youth development by reducing risk factors and enhancing protective factors.
